Thermodynamic analysis of novel methanol polygeneration systems for greenhouses

This work presents the modeling and thermodynamic analysis of two novel small-scale polygeneration systems that are capable simultaneously converting residual biomass to methanol (MeOH), electricity, heat a CO2-rich stream for agricultural greenhouses. The first system is based on downdraft gasifier, while second relies dual fluidized bed (DFB) gasifier. Both configurations leverage H2, O2, electricity generation capabilities reversible solid oxide cells (RSOCs). Aspen Plus process simulator used model performance proposed systems, which operate at total efficiencies ranging from 83.9 85.0%. From biofuel electrical efficiency perspective, DFB gasifier superior, providing added benefit enabling carbon capture storage, as N2-free with molar purity exceeding 90% CO2 generated, could be readily liquefied or sequestered.
